Catching up on my Blogs as I was on Holiday, so here goes. This survey was designed to target people aged 35 – 60.   The reason for this survey is to ascertain if Facebook users in this age bracket firstly: use messenger on Facebook and secondly if they use messenger on their mobile phones. I am interested in this because I am in this age bracket and until recently was very reluctant to add messenger to my mobile phone, although I used it on Facebook on my laptop.   I felt that having it on my phone was encouraging me to interact more with others on-line as I had previously only interacted through messenger when I decided to log onto Facebook, which might not be every day.   Friends of mine were asking why I hadn’t replied to them and I was constantly saying that I didn’t see their message.   I felt forced in some ways to download the messenger app onto my phone and yes I use it most days now.   I would also like to find out if older Facebook users use...
Activity 1 I decided on this research question as I noticed when carrying out a skills test with Leaving certificate students that most of them used a calculator to add up a very basic skills test outcome.  What topic, area, or question would you seek to investigate? Does using a calculator in the classroom stop students from using their minds to work out basic math's such as addition. Who you would want to interview in order to find out about your chosen topic? Individual students and teachers. How you would conduct the interview(s)? Face to face and via Skype What you would do with the data (in terms of storage and transcribing)? I would store written information in a folder in a locked filing cabinet and transcribed information on a password protected laptop or computer. How would you handle matters concerning gaining informed consent and confidentiality? I would email a letter to participants explaining who I am, what research I am carrying out and...
This is my first blog post for week one of Research Methods. Apart from the blogging I had to carry out for IDEL I have never blogged, so hopefully I get it right!  I am not sure what I want to research, but taking part in edx has given me a few ideas to work from.  Although I have taken part in the group blog with Antonia, Dirk, Eli, Rachelle and Ross I decided to try out a blog myself so I could learn how to set up a blog and gain some individual experience at blogging.  I have tried to answer the question as best I can. ·         What kind of topics are you interested in researching? I would like to focus my research on some of the groups that are involved with a project I work with for male offenders, but I am not sure if this is suitable. ·         What initial research questions might be starting to emerge for you? Q1 Idea: Does education in general or education with a digital input ...
